This is an early work, quite influenced by mid-20th century American Romanticism. In the Valley of the Elwy is among my favorite poems by one of my “desert-island” bards, Gerard Manley Hopkins. Since discovering his poems in college, I’ve penned and sketched several settings of his works, of which this is the largest and most successful.
